# Set up your first workspace

> Create a workspace, add your company details, and get ready to run your first assessment.

A **workspace** is where all of a company's assessments, data, and results live. If you're measuring your own organisation, you'll usually have one workspace. Consultants and advisors can run a separate workspace per client to keep data cleanly separated.

## 1. Create the workspace

After signing in for the first time, you'll be prompted to create a workspace. Give it the name of the company being measured — not your own name — since everything inside it (assessments, reports, exports) will carry this label.

## 2. Add company details

Fill in the basics about the organisation:

* **Legal name and trading name**
* **Industry** — this helps Salvidia pick appropriate default emission factors for spend-based estimates
* **Country and region** — emission factors for things like electricity vary significantly by grid, so location matters
* **Reporting period** — most organisations align this with their financial year

  Getting the industry and region right up front improves the accuracy of every spend-based estimate in your assessments. You can change these later, but results calculated before the change won't automatically update.

## 3. Invite your team

You can invite colleagues to the workspace so data collection doesn't bottleneck on one person. A common split:

* **Finance** handles the accounting connection and spend data
* **Operations** fills in activity data like fuel, fleet, and waste
* **Whoever owns sustainability** reviews results and pulls reports

## 4. Connect your data source

The fastest path to a footprint is connecting your accounting platform, so Salvidia can work directly from your ledger. If you'd rather not connect directly, you can [import data from CSV or spreadsheets](/platform/working-with-data) instead — the platform supports both.
